ReportsFLSA Status: ExemptThe United States and Canadian Academy of
Pathology (USCAP) is seeking a strategic and mission-driven Chief
Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) to join its senior
leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned
executive to help lead and strengthen the operational backbone of a
globally respected nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing
pathology education and innovation.Position OverviewThe Chief
Finance and Administrative Officer provides strategic oversight
across five critical areas or departments:
- Finance and Administration: Oversees accounting operations,
develops and manages the annual budget, coordinates the annual
audit, and leads the creation and implementation of internal
policies to ensure efficiency, compliance, and fiscal
responsibility.
- Human Resources: Manages recruitment, employee relations,
compliance with employment laws, benefits, and payroll. The CFAO
partners with a legal counsel as needed to support a compliant and
inclusive workplace.
- Information Technology (IT) and Facilities: Supervises IT
infrastructure and vendor relationships, including platforms that
deliver USCAP's online courses, and oversees the maintenance and
operational needs of the headquarters in Palm Springs.
- Membership: Leads initiatives to grow and engage USCAP's
membership within the pathology field. Responsibilities include
overseeing member recruitment and renewals, developing programming,
and managing registration for the annual meeting and educational
courses.
- Foundation: Guides fundraising strategies that align with
USCAP's core pillars-Fostering the Next Generation of Pathologists,
Innovating Education, and Promoting Global Health. The CFAO
supports donor engagement, travel award programs, and long-term
development planning.This role supervises a team that includes the
Director of Information Technology and Facilities, Director of
Member Services, Senior Staff Accountant, Foundation Development
Manager, Executive Administrative Assistant, and external
consultants.Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a high-performing Finance and Administrative
team to meet organizational goals.
- Oversee and ensure compliance in financial, HR, and operational
processes.
- Manage the organization's budgeting, forecasting, audit, and
internal control activities.
- Cultivate vendor relationships and lead operational improvement
initiatives.
- Serve as a key advisor to the EVP/CEO and contribute to
cross-departmental strategy and planning.
- Support succession planning and staff development.
- Promote USCAP's values, commitment to excellence, and inclusive
culture.Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Business, Nonprofit
Administration, or related field (Master's preferred).
- 8+ years of senior-level leadership experience in finance and
administration, ideally in a nonprofit or association setting.
- Deep expertise in accounting, HR, IT systems, and vendor
management.
- Familiarity with fundraising, membership engagement, and
foundation operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational
skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and
discretion.
- Track record of fostering collaboration, innovation, and
operational excellence.Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel to USCAP meetings and events as needed.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and
weekends as necessary.
- Must pass a background check and comply with all USCAP

Regular on-site presence is required - Relocation stipend available
