SummaryThe preschool teacher assistant is a member of the teaching
team under daily direct supervision of the teacher. The teacher
assistant is also responsible to the director under the direction
of the board of directors.The assistant provides support to the
classroom by assisting to prepare and deliver instructional
activities, observe development, redirect behaviors and implement
the daily program. The teacher assistant is responsible for
addressing the health and safety of the children and assuring
compliance with all local, state and federal guidelines pertaining
to program compliance.This position is the first level of entry and
it will be expected that the assistant will continually seek
professional growth by attending training and/or classes in order
to attain advancement,Minimum Qualifications* Eighteen years of age
or older and GED/high school graduate6 Early Childhood Education
units (preferably in core courses- Child Growth &Development,
Child/Family/Community and Programs/Curriculum) An Associate
Teacher Permit highly desiredAbility to speak, read, and write in
English with comprehension* Proof of the ability to work in the
United States* Physician's Statement of good healthCurrent TB
clearance* Proof of MMR vaccine* Proof of Tdap or Dtap
vaccineCurrent Influenza Vaccine or Waiver FBI and DOJ Fingerprint

22Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities* Punctual and ready to
work, clocks in/out at appropriate scheduled work times and returns
on time from rest and meal breaks.* Takes initiative and assumes
responsibility demonstrating effective use of time management to
assist the children, teacher and center needs.e Follows proper
channels of authority in disagreements or conflicts. Uses good
judgement and maintains self-control when dealing with difficult
situations with children, parents or staff.* Demonstrates
flexibility to assist in other areas according to center needs as
part of a culture of teamwork.* Attends required staff meetings and
trainings. Arriving on time and staying until completion.*
Accompany children/class on all fieldtrips even when parents are
present.* Demonstrates appropriate behavior and classroom
management techniques during curriculum activities. Maintains
health, safety and ratio. Communicates effectively with teacher to
work together in the best interest of the children. Builds trust
with each child and promotes social skills with peers.Provides care
and supervision to children at ALL times to maintain health and
safety. No child shall be left without the supervision of a permit
teacher at any time except as allowed in Title 22 101216.2 to
escort a child to the bathroom and supervise napping children.
Responsible for all meaftime activities- models acceptable eating
behaviors at meal time by eating the same meal as the children.
Follows all CACFP requirements/record keeping, knowledge of all
children with special dietary needs or children with an Incidental
Medical Services Plan and follows appropriately.* Assists children
in developing age appropriate self-help skills including toilet
trainingListens to children's comments, questions and concerns and
responds to them respectfully. Redirects undesirable behaviors
using strategies that are positive learning experiences and that
maintain respect for the child.* Greets children and families and
ensures proper sign in/out procedures for children at dropoff and
pick-up.* Conducts a daily health check of each child upon arrival
and notifies the parent if the child is too ill to attend according
to the center's health policy.* Notifies teacher, director and
parents of injuries and completes an accident/illness report Carn/
out assigned activities under the direction of the
teacher.Maintains classroom routine and structure in the absence of
the teacher by supporting and assisting substitutes.* Assists and
supports teacher in paperwork requirements and child observations.*
Assist in cleaning and organizing of indoor and outdoor learning
environments.Perform other related work as may be requiredPhysical
Demands and Working ConditionsThe physical requirements indicated
below are examples of the physical aspects that the teacher
assistant in this position must perform in carrying out the
essential job duties and responsibilities listed above.Physical
Demands: Sit, stand, look with eyes and turn with neck in all
directions, walk, bend, crouch or stoop, reach or stretch, twist,
squat, kneel push and pull (Regularly). Lift and carry up to 10
pounds (regularly); to 20 pounds (regularly); to 40 pounds
(rarely). Speak, hear, smell, see, and feel.Working Conditions:
Indoor classrooms, outdoor play yards and school grounds. Exposure
to student and playground noise, seasonal temperatures dust, smoke,
