Join our growing team at South Coast Iron a trusted leader in misc. steel fabrication and erection serving commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects across the Southern California and beyond. We're seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager to handle the full lifecycle of our steel projects from accurate, competitive bidding to on-time, on-budget delivery in the field. Key Responsibilities: Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication and erection projects, including material take-offs, labor hours, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead. Review architectural, structural, and engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop comprehensive proposals and bids. Manage awarded projects from contract award through close-out: coordinate with fabrication shop, field erection crews, general contractors, architects, engineers, and suppliers. Track project schedules, budgets, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and progress to ensure profitable execution and client satisfaction. Collaborate with operations, detailing, and field teams to resolve issues, optimize production, and maintain safety and quality standards. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, GCs, and vendors to support repeat business and referrals. Identify value engineering opportunities and proactively manage risks to improve margins and project outcomes. What We're Looking For: 5 years of experience in structural steel estimating and/or project management, ideally in a fabrication erection environment. Strong ability to read and interpret structural/architectural drawings, blueprints, and specifications (AISC, AWS knowledge a plus). Proficiency with estimating software/tools (e.g., Excel-based takeoff programs, Tekla, Bluebeam, or similar); hands-on takeoff experience required. Solid understanding of steel fabrication processes, erection sequencing, and field construction practices. Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills with keen attention to detail. Strong communication and negotiation abilities—comfortable presenting bids and managing client expectations. Degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related field preferred but not required (or equivalent hands-on experience). OSHA 10/30 certification and familiarity with steel erection safety standards a plus. Knowledgeable with stainless and aluminum materials Why Join Us?
