The Senior Nutritionist Assistant is responsible for WIC
participants' certification including health and nutrition
assessment, nutrition education, and breastfeeding support and
Essential Functions of the Job:
* Perform nutrition assessments, determine nutritional risks and
prescribe WIC food packages. * Provide group and one on one
nutrition and breastfeeding education. * Issue breast pumps
according to the agency's policies and procedures. * Give referrals
as needed to other programs. * Void and reconcile voided food
instruments as needed. * Supervise assigned WIC site in the absence
of RDN Site Supervisor. * Collects, screen and document income,
address and category information for WIC certification. * Input
data into WIC MIS. * Prepare, print and issue food instruments
adhering to WIC program policies for separation of duties. * Call
participants to remind them of their appointment or re-schedule
missed appointment, mailing food instruments when appropriate. *
Demonstrates openness to organizational changes. * Actively seeks
out ways to improve processes. * Participate in program linkages,
referral and outreach activities.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
* Maintains established departmental policies and procedures,
objectives, quality assurance programs, safely, environmental and
infection control standards. * Enhances professional growth and
development through participation in educational programs, current
literature, in-service meetings and workshops. * Attend meetings as
required and participates on committees as directed. * Perform
related duties as assigned or requested.
Education Required (Minimum level of education):
* Bachelor of Science in Nutrition.
* Certification to be obtained at WIC.
Experience Required (Minimum level of experience):
* Minimum of 1 year experience working in the nutrition
Verbal and Written Skills Required to perform the Job:
* Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred; Strong oral and written
Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job:
* Demonstrated knowledge of California WIC Program; strong
desire to serve and work with a culturally diverse and low income
population; knowledge of community health center environment
desirable; computer proficiency; ability to work in a fast paced
* Computers, telephones, copy and fax machines.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
* Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking. * Noisy
clinic environment with young children and infants. * May require
the ability to move up to 20 lbs. with proper equipment. * Schedule
will require some Saturdays and evenings. * May need to travel and
work at other SYHealth WIC sites.
