The OpportunityCurtiss-Wright Fleet Solutions is comprised of three service centers that focus on the US Navy fleet support and maintenance market. The Fleet Solutions group provides turnkey overhaul / repair, testing, and parts sales for air compressors, main propulsion steam turbines, valves, steam turbine generators, auxiliary turbines, dehydrators, pumps, strainers, PLCs, and blowers.

Manual Machinist:The successful Machinist will be performing moderately complex assignments in support of our repair and maintenance of OEM equipment. Machinists will be required to perform a variety of related tasks including layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual machine shop equipment. Salary: $49,700 to $78,900

The Challenge:

• Manufacturing and inspecting detailed parts and tools from blueprints, sketches, drawings and verbal instructions using a variety of manual machining tools and equipment (mills, lathes, boring mills, drill presses, saws, grinders, and other machining equipment) and using mathematical and geometrical skills and calculations
• Determining how to set up and operate machines based on instructions received.
• Performing minor repairs of equipment
• Keeping work area clean and free from safety hazards
• Maintaining acceptable quality and efficiency level
• Completes required reports and QA Documents to go with the project
• Using and variety of measuring or layout tools such as verniers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, gauge blocks, angle plates, V- blocks, bore and pitch gauges, protractors, squares and dividers
  Your Expertise:
  • Must be US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance
  • 5 years machine shop experience and/or have completed a recognized apprenticeship as a General Machinist.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to machine as per drawing tolerance of .0005" where required
  • Must be able to demonstrate General Machinist skills in the following areas:
    • Lathe
    • Milling
    • Drilling
    • Machine shop power and pneumatic tools
    • Must be able to design and manufacture fixtures and template
    • Must be able to make own layouts as per drawing
    • Must be able to understand GD&T tolerances
      • Experience operating forklifts, cranes, plate clamps and slings a plus
      • Expected to have or purchase basic hand tools.
      • The ability to work overtime when necessary and travel up to 25% is also a must.
      • Must possess valid drivers license and maintain a clear driving record
